Education

Dr. Da Silva received her B.A. in Psychology from Hunter College in New York City and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany, one of the top counseling psychology doctoral programs in the country.

Experience

Apart from her work at Premier Psychology Group, Dr. Da Silva provides trauma-focused therapy at Bellevue Hospital to individuals medically and psychologically impacted by the World Trade Center collapse. Having worked in a large urban hospital system, VA Medical Center, college counseling center, and community mental health center, Dr. Da Silva is skilled at treating both adults and adolescents using a variety of evidence-backed and individually tailored treatment techniques. She has also held supervisory positions and values training the next generation of psychologists.

Teaching

Dr. Da Silva is currently a faculty member at NYU School of Medicine. Additionally, as an adjunct faculty member and instructor at the University at Albany, Dr. Da Silva taught several undergraduate- and master’s-level courses, including Intermediate Counseling Theory and Practice Pre-Practicum Lab, Practicum, and Psychology, Cultural Diversity, and Social Justice.

Research

Dr. Da Silva’s program of research broadly focuses on the mental health and relational experiences of underrepresented populations in the United States, including Latina immigrants and veterans experiencing comorbid physical and mental health challenges. She has conducted studies examining gender roles, acculturative stress and psychological distress, experiences of and responses to coercive control, and intimate partner violence. Additionally, Dr. Da Silva has studied the neural mechanisms of attention and emotional responses to visual stimuli and how they differ across age and gender variables. Dr. Da Silva has published her research in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has presented her findings at national and international conferences.
